John Jenks - Lead Pastor

Pastor John JenksJohn grew up in Palo Alto, California and graduated from UCLA in 1978. John & Ann met in 1977 at Mount Hermon Camp & Conference Center near Santa Cruz, California and married in 1981.

John earned his Masters of divinity Degree from Fuller Seminary in 1985 and also studied at North Park Seminary in Chicago. John served as an assistant pastor at Newport Covenant Church in Bellevue from 1985-89 before becoming the founding pastor of CCC in 1989.
 
John & Ann have 2 sons, Jason and Brian. Jason recently graduated from Western Washington University in Bellingham. Brian attends Whitworth College in Spokane. John loves to spend time with his family, read, golf, bike, travel, exercise, be with friends and win his fantasy football league. He enjoys vacationing in Hawaii and having a burrito at the Qdoba Mexican Grill. John loves talking with people about living life as a follower of Jesus.

 Mark Hjelmervik: Associate Pastor of Worship & Community Groups

Mark grew up in a very musical family in San Andreas, California.  He received his Bachelor of Music Education (BME) from Pacific Lutheran University (Tacoma, WA). Following college he taught high school choir and guitar classes for three years at his alma mater in San Andreas (Calaveras High School). During this time he served as a worship and youth ministry leader at San Andreas Community Covenant Church. Mark has also spent 6 summers in camping ministry. After teaching in CA, Mark then moved to Chicago to study at North Park Theological Seminary, where he received his Masters of Divinity degree in 2007.  Mark has been serving as the associate pastor of worship and community groups at CCC since November of 2007.

Mark’s passion and experience in the realms of worship and community groups is extensive.  He has both solo and team led worship in church, summer camp, small group, and special event settings.  He is passionate about pursuing and teaching a life of worship that goes far beyond the realm of music and the framework of Sunday mornings.  Mark has also served in various small groups settings for over the past ten years as a leader, mentor, and coach.  He is absolutely convinced that we are called to live an authentic life in relationship both with God and with our neighbor.

 Kirsten Cheney - Front Office Ministry Assistant & Treasurer

Kirsten grew up the oldest of 5 daughters and was raised in a Covenant Church in Jamestown, NY.  After graduating from North Park College in 1989 she made the bold decision to accept a job with Covenant Retirement Communities and move to WA in 1990.  In 1991 she married her high school sweetheart Jay and they began the adventure of their life together in WA.  They discovered CCC in 1994 and feel their friends at CCC have become like family to them. The Cheney’s have two elementary age boys, John and Asa.

Kirsten has volunteered in children’s, youth, community group and women’s ministries. She has  served as the treasurer prior to joining the staff as combo Administrative Asst./Treasurer. When asked how God has blessed her at CCC she says “It’s been amazing to see God work in this church and lives of people for over 10 years!  It’s neat to have friends for that long, but it is truly phenomenal to share in other’s ‘God-walks’ for that long and watch God work in this church!”

 April Baldwin - Facility Ministry Leader

April joined the CCC staff in 2008 as our Facility Coordinator. She enjoys the challenges of maintaining our church facility and loves working with our church family. April is married to her sweetheart of 15 years and is the proud mother of two young children.

April grew up in North Carolina and loves the mountains. She enjoys hanging out with her family and friends. April has enjoyed serving in our women’s ministry at CCC, especially in the Friday morning community groups and with our annual women’s retreat. April is aspiring to be a Christian comedian and wants to glorify Jesus and his presence in all areas of her life.

 Angela McCann - Children's Ministry Director

Angela has been serving in Children's Ministry at Cascade Covenant Church since October of 2004 and has served on staff since 2006.   Angela loves children and serves with great joy and excitement.  She is passionate about teaching kids to know the love Jesus has for them.  She is committed to partnering with parents, to equipping teachers, leaders, and volunteers, and to serving our awesome God.

Angela grew up in Southern California where she met, went to prom with, and later married Tom.   A year later they moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and began a family.  In 1994 they moved to North Bend and now have 3 children.  Elizabeth and Emily are attending MSHS and Dylan is at TFMS.

 Leslie Keogh - Children’s Ministry Leader/Nursery & Preschool

Leslie grew up in Napa Valley, CA where most of her family still lives.  She received her BA in Early Childhood Education and her MS Teaching Credential from Chico State University in 1978. After teaching for five years she married Michael and became an at- home mom raising their four children, Brian, Amy, April & Connor. During this time Leslie served for many years as a children’s leader in the pre-school ministry with BSF (Bible Study Fellowship).

The Keogh’s have lived in North Bend for 16 years & have been attending CCC for 14 years. Leslie loves pre-school children and has served in CCC’s Children’s ministry on both Friday and Sunday mornings.

Leslie is excited to support parents, teachers, and volunteers as we love these little children and teach them the truth about God and His love for them.

 Kelly Matson - Children’s Ministry Leader/Elementary

Kelly is 25 years old and married to Christopher “Topher” Matson since May 2, 2009. She grew up in Exeter, California with her parents, sisters and brother.  She attended Point Loma Nazarene University receiving a BA in International Studies and also met her hubby!

Kelly is passionate about Christ and teaching others about His Love, Majesty and Creation. Kelly is part of our Children’s Ministry team by leading Family Experience and supporting the Crosswalk ministry. She loves that she gets to hang out with kids all day and they get to teach her about Christ love. She also loves to be outside, read, paint, and cook but most of all loves to spend time with Topher on some new adventure. They are both very excited to continue becoming apart of the CCC family and North Bend community.

 Karen Miller - Youth Ministry Leader

Karen has lived in North Bend for 31 years. She and her husband Kenny, along with their blended family of 6 children have attended Cascade Covenant for 17 years.

She has loved and served Jesus for 27 years. She has been a part of youth ministry at CCC since 2001 and on staff since 2003.

A recent quote from Karen, “There is nothing I would rather be doing than what I’m doing now!”

She is excited when folks really get what it means to “follow Jesus” and when they understand their place in the Body of Christ. But she is most excited when people finally realize how very much God loves them!

Karen loves people of all ages, but especially enjoys middle, high school and college age students! She loves their energy, their enthusiasm, their hearts and their questions about God.
Monday and Tuesdays are her favorite nights of the week. 

Karen enjoys spending time with her family and good friends, hanging out with middle and high schoolers, meeting new people, learning new things, eating popcorn, reading, playing the guitar, going to the nursing home and taking a ride with Kenny on his motorcycle.

 Amy Jayne - Youth Ministry Leader/Middle School

Amy grew up in North Bend and began attending Cascade Covenant in 1991 at age 8 with her parents and five siblings.  She is now married to Jason who she met in kindergarten, and they have two young sons.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, snowboarding, hiking, traveling, doing puzzles, and quite ironically, spending time with middle school students.

In 2005, Amy graduated from North Park University in Chicago with degrees in Political Science and Biblical & Theological Studies.  She also spent a year studying at Covenant Bible College in Ecuador and received her Certificate of Christian Studies.  Amy began working with Middle School students at Cascade Covenant when she was in high school.  This passion continued into college where she worked on a teaching certification while working part-time with special needs 7th graders in the Chicago Public Schools.  She felt especially drawn to this age group while coordinating an after school program for at-risk junior high students.  She is thrilled to be continuing this calling in her hometown.

 Christopher Matson - Youth Ministry Intern

Topher grew up in Northern California, born the year that “Thriller” topped the charts on the very day that the Groundhog saw his shadow. His parents nearly named him Thor. He was raised by a Teacher/Musician father and an Artist mother. In High School he indulged himself in tuning and racing muscle cars, going to car shows and listening to oldies. He was also involved in his church on a worship team for 5 years. He worked at Papa Murphy’s Take ‘n Bake for 5 years as well and left after creating a line of Cinnamon Rolls for the company.

He attended Point Loma Nazarene University, graduating with a Business – Management Degree in the Fall of 2007.  His summers were spent at Mount Hermon near Santa Cruz, CA as a counselor in the DayCamp program. Approx. 2,647 kids now him only as “Spiff”. Summers are his best memories, second only to taking walks with his wife, Kelly.

He loves seeing God through His creation and nature. He enjoys reading the Chronicles of Narnia. His favorite movie is either The Shawshank Redemption or Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure; favorite album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”; favorite restaurant chain: Chevy’s. His favorite color is Orange and because of his Scandinavian heritage, his favorite food is ANYTHING containing sugar, butter and flour.  Just point & click here to email Topher!
